Down By The River I
Down By The River I
A quiet morning in Moliets with Alexandra Siebert — German surfer, artist and someone I’ve now shared almost a decade of work and friendship with.
We headed out before sunrise for one of those slow mornings near the ocean that almost feel detached from time completely. A thin fog layer settled over the coastline and softened everything just enough to diffuse the first light into something incredibly subtle. No dramatic sunrise, no obvious spectacle — just this muted atmosphere where tones started blending into each other almost like a painting.
Those are usually my favorite conditions to work in. The moments where light becomes less descriptive and more emotional.
This image ended up becoming one of my personal favorites I’ve ever taken. There’s something about the balance of stillness, texture and the almost cinematic quietness of the scene that kept pulling me back to it over the years.
I’ve previously made a few smaller screen prints of this photograph, but printing it as a fine art piece on Canson Aquarelle paper changed the image completely for me. The softer structure of the paper gives the photograph a much more organic and painterly character — somewhere between documentary surf photography and contemporary fine art printmaking.
Especially as a larger wall piece, the image really starts breathing differently. The subtle gradients, fog diffusion and soft tonal transitions become much more present physically than they ever could digitally.
All Prints are signed, packed and produced in the highest possible quality! This is an open edition. The Canson Aquarelle is perfect for my style of photography and the matt finish accompanies my work super well! I recommend using a reflective glass when framing as this gives the perfect contrast between the paper and the glass and looks absolutely amazing on the wall! You can choose to order the Print with a white boarder on each side of the print! The original size stays the same minus the 2cm on each side. Sometimes it makes the framing much easier! If you need a different size for your print, just send me an inquiry through the contact page and we can sort it out together. Almost any size is possible.
Please note: if you see that a print is listed with a maximum size below 60 × 90 cm, it means that a smaller format is recommended to ensure the highest possible print quality and sharpness in the final result.
