Silence I
Silence I
This photograph was taken in Caparica during a period where both Vovô Balian and I crossed path in Lisbon after living together in Baleal for such a long time. Back then, mornings often moved slow and trust me Vovo takes his time. So naturally we ended up surfing later in the day ;) Sorry Vo.
Vovô has always been one of those people carrying a story in his head at all times. Sometimes about surfing, sometimes about life in general, sometimes something completely abstract that somehow still makes perfect sense by the end of it. Over the years, those conversations became just as important to me as the surfing itself.
I would describe him as a surfer who truly appreciates the history of surfing and you can tell watching him surf & also teaching me how to surf. These days, we mostly surf together, talk, eat well and enjoy life in a quieter way. And honestly, I’m incredibly grateful to call him one of my closest friends.
He also wrote the article about me for Pacific Longboarder Magazine — something I’m still deeply proud of, not only because of the publication itself, but because I genuinely think he managed to capture who I am and how I see things in a way very few people could.
This image somehow carries a lot of that feeling for me. Silence, but still full of presence. Stillness that only really exists around the ocean when you’re really and truly connected with it. And Vovo is.
Visually, the photograph is far from my usual style. But the contrast and light in this frame really make me feel something. Hope it does the same to you.
All Prints are signed, packed and produced in the highest possible quality! This is an open edition. The Canson Aquarelle is perfect for my style of photography and the matt finish accompanies my work super well! I recommend using a reflective glass when framing as this gives the perfect contrast between the paper and the glass and looks absolutely amazing on the wall! You can choose to order the Print with a white boarder on each side of the print! The original size stays the same minus the 2cm on each side. Sometimes it makes the framing much easier! If you need a different size for your print, just send me an inquiry through the contact page and we can sort it out together. Almost any size is possible.
Please note: if you see that a print is listed with a maximum size below 60 × 90 cm, it means that a smaller format is recommended to ensure the highest possible print quality and sharpness in the final result.
